Timi Frank Demands Sowore’s Release, Calls on DSS to Focus on Insecurity
Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Timi Frank, has called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to release activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, urging the security agency to focus its resources on tackling the growing insecurity confronting the country.
Frank expressed concern over Sowore’s continued detention, describing it as unnecessary at a time when Nigeria is facing serious security threats, including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and violent crimes in several parts of the country.
In a statement issued on Monday, Frank argued that security agencies should concentrate on addressing the challenges affecting the safety of Nigerians rather than engaging in actions that could be perceived as suppressing dissenting voices. He maintained that democratic societies thrive when citizens are free to express their opinions within the bounds of the law.
The former APC spokesperson stressed that the DSS has a critical responsibility to protect lives and property, noting that many communities across the country continue to grapple with attacks by criminal elements. According to him, greater attention should be directed toward intelligence gathering and operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks.
Frank also urged the Federal Government to uphold the rule of law and ensure that the rights of all citizens are respected, regardless of their political views or affiliations. He emphasized that strengthening democratic institutions and protecting civil liberties remain essential to national stability and development.
While calling for Sowore’s release, Frank appealed for calm among supporters of the activist and encouraged all parties to pursue lawful and peaceful means of resolving disputes.
He further noted that the fight against insecurity requires the collective commitment of government, security agencies, community leaders, and citizens, adding that national unity and cooperation are necessary to overcome the country’s security challenges.
The call comes amid ongoing public debate surrounding Sowore’s legal battle and the role of security agencies in balancing national security concerns with the protection of fundamental human rights.
