Eid-el Fitri: Islamic Scholar, Sugar Wants Gov’t To Permit 2020 Congregational Prayer
The Wakeelu Muslims Of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta States, Sheikh Iskeel Awwal, popularly known as Sugar has appealed to the governors of the states to reopen mosques so as to allow Muslims to hold their Eid-el Fitri congregational prayer.
He also appealed for reopening of churches across the states, saying that prayer is the only solution to end the coronavirus pandemic ravaging the country.
Sugar disclosed this on Thursday during a press conference held at the NUJ Secretariat, Abeokuta, Ogun state.
He however commended the efforts of the governors on their commitment towards the fight against the covid-19 pandemic .
The Islamic scholar said, ”Truth must be told , our Governors are heroes for what they have done and what they are doing to protect their people in their respective states against the enemy of humanity called coronavirus .
” On behalf of the Muslims in Yorubaland ,Edo and Delta land, I want to appeal to our Governors to allow Muslims hold the coming Eid prayer at their respective prayer grounds in the states .
”As the Wakeelu Muslims , I know that mosque which is the house of Allah has the solution for whatever problems either spiritual or physical”
He maintained that Muslims could not access mosques which is the house of Allah before and during this year Ramadan, saying that it has denied them the benefit of congregations of solats and listening to Tafsir.
”I am not surprised that my brothers and sisters in Islam obey the Government’s order , despite that it is so painful to stay away from the mosques .It is because Allah enjoins us to obey him, his prophet and the people in the authority .
”However , without mincing words , the circumstance in the country has shown that , if we follow the guidelines of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control on the prevention of the virus we can be fine”
He assured the Governors that if they can reopen the mosques, they will all beg Allah for his mercies against the pandemic and He will heal our land .
”While we appeal to the Governors to reopen the mosques for us , I wish to advise the Muslims to ensure that they follow the guidelines of NCDC on the use of face masks ; washing of hands with hand sanitiser and keeping social distancing .
”I wish all our Muslim brothers and sisters a warm and fruitful celebration of Eid fitr .
”I also enjoined them to retain the lessons learnt in the month of Ramadan which include fear of Allah ; kindness to others ; full time worship and discipline among others” He concluded
