Crisis Deepens in Ogun PDP as Six Assembly Members Defect to APC
The political crisis within the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has intensified following the defection of six members of the State House of Assembly to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers, who were elected on the platform of the PDP, announced their decision to switch allegiance, citing internal divisions and unresolved issues within the party as key reasons for their move. Their defection adds to the growing wave of political realignments in the state.
Reacting to the development, the PDP leadership in Ogun expressed strong displeasure, describing the defections as unfortunate and a betrayal of the mandate given to the lawmakers by the electorate under the party’s platform.
The party accused the APC of orchestrating the defections as part of a broader strategy to weaken the opposition and consolidate its hold on power in the state. It also insisted that the actions of the defecting lawmakers would not derail its structure or future electoral prospects.
Despite the setback, PDP officials maintained that the party remains strong and committed to rebuilding, while urging loyal members to stay focused ahead of future political contests.
The development highlights the ongoing political tensions and shifting alliances within Ogun State’s political landscape, as parties position themselves for upcoming elections.
