Boot Party To OGD: “Don’t Use Our Case Against Senator Yayi To Cash Out From Baba Ijebu”

The Ogun State Chairman of the Boot Party, Architect Abiodun Akerele, has dismissed claims that former Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD), is behind the legal action instituted against the APC governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), insisting that the suit was filed independently by the party.

Speaking with journalists in Abeokuta, Akerele said reports suggesting that Daniel sponsored or influenced the case were false and misleading.

It would be recalled that, in a controversial leaked viral audio wherein Otunba Gbenga Daniel purportedly claimed the case challenging the indigeneship status of Senator Yayi was allegedly sponsored by him.

But according to the Boot Party Chairman, “Nothing transpired between us and Otunba Gbenga Daniel because he did not in any way contribute to whatever we are doing. We have a case in court against Senator Olamilekan Yayi, not from Otunba Gbenga Daniel.

“We don’t know him in that regard, and he has nothing to do with the case. He should not use our case to cash out from Baba Ijebu.”

The Boot Party chairman stressed that if Daniel has any personal dispute with the APC governorship candidate, he should state it clearly instead of linking himself to the party’s legal action.

“For him to say that his boys are in court on the case is a blatant lie. We are not working for him, neither are we his boys. He is not sponsoring anybody, and he does not have any kobo in whatever we are doing,” he said.

Explaining why the party approached the court, Akerele said the suit seeks judicial clarification on issues relating to Senator Adeola’s identity, political history, and eligibility.

He alleged that there were discrepancies concerning the senator’s name, previous employment, and political affiliations, claiming these were matters that deserved public explanation.

According to him, Senator Adeola contested elections in Lagos for several years before emerging as the senator representing Ogun West, raising questions that the court should determine.

He further alleged that the senator failed to properly comply with affidavit and oath requirements in his nomination process, insisting that the matter is now before the court.

“Someone who wants to contest in Ogun State, we need to know who that person is. We need to know his background, where he is coming from, and his antecedents. These are issues before the court, so I will not say more,” he stated.

Responding to allegations that the Boot Party was being sponsored by opposition interests, Akerele dismissed the claims.

“I am in an opposition party already. Boot Party is an opposition party. I am sponsoring myself. Whoever says somebody is sponsoring me should come forward with evidence,” he said.

The party chairman expressed confidence in the Boot Party’s chances, saying it would present Engineer Adekunle Adenuga as its governorship candidate.

He described Adenuga as “a bona fide son of the soil” and “an engineer of repute” with a successful business background, contrasting him with what he described as “professional politicians” who have spent decades in elective offices.

Akerele also promised that the Boot Party would unveil its detailed manifesto during the official campaign period, saying the party’s focus would be on transparent governance, accountability, quality public services, and improved welfare for Ogun residents.

He criticised the current system of governance, alleging a lack of accountability in public spending and calling for leadership that would be more transparent and responsive to the people.

He maintained that the Boot Party is committed to providing what he described as genuine democratic dividends to the people of Ogun State.
