Awujale Stool: KWAM 1 Raises Alarm Over Alleged Exclusion From Nomination Process
Renowned Fuji musician and Ijebu prince, Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1), has petitioned the Ogun State Government, protesting what he described as his unlawful exclusion from the nomination process for the vacant Awujale of Ijebuland stool.
In a formal petition submitted through his legal counsel, Dr. Wahab Shittu (SAN), KWAM 1 alleged that he and several other qualified members of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House were prevented from participating in the nomination meeting convened to select candidates for the revered traditional position.
According to the petition, access to the venue was restricted, with security personnel allegedly allowing entry only to individuals issued special delegate cards. KWAM 1 contended that this arrangement was neither agreed upon by all members of the ruling house nor supported by established Ijebu customary law.
He further argued that the delegate system effectively disenfranchised many legitimate princes and princesses who are traditionally entitled to attend and participate in the nomination exercise, rendering the process flawed and unacceptable.
The petition urged the Ogun State Government to invalidate the disputed nomination exercise and ensure that any future process strictly adheres to customary practices and relevant laws, guaranteeing fairness, inclusiveness, and transparency.
The Awujale stool became vacant following the passing of Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, and the succession process has since attracted widespread attention among indigenes and stakeholders across Ijebuland.
