GRA-1 Residents Applaud Senator Abiru for Transformative Solar Street-Light Project
The Executive Committee, elders and residents of GRA-1 Community Development Association (CDA), Ikorodu, Lagos State, have commended Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru for facilitating the installation of 50 industrial solar-powered street lights across the estate.
The community described the intervention as a major milestone in its efforts to address years of inadequate street lighting and improve safety, visibility and movement within the estate.
In a media brief issued to the press by Prince Femi Odulaja, popularly known as Femostika, on behalf of the GRA-1 CDA Executive Committee, the community expressed its appreciation to the senator for responding to what it described as a critical community need.
According to the community, the newly installed solar street lights have significantly improved illumination across the estate, particularly at night, while contributing to a greater sense of security among residents.
The CDA noted that the intervention carries added significance because of the strategic location of GRA-1, which hosts several important facilities and institutions serving the people of Ikorodu.
Senator Abiru’s campaign secretariat is located within the estate, while the Ikorodu INEC Office is also situated in the area. The estate further shares proximity with the Ikorodu General Hospital, making improved lighting beneficial not only to residents but also to visitors and members of the public who access these important facilities.
The community said the project would therefore have an impact beyond individual households, describing it as an intervention capable of improving movement, visibility and general security within the wider neighbourhood.
While expressing appreciation for the solar street-light intervention, the GRA-1 CDA also used the opportunity to highlight what it described as its main outstanding infrastructure need the complete upgrade of the estate’s road network.
According to the community, the principal estate road stretches approximately 1.2 kilometres in totality and requires comprehensive rehabilitation and upgrading to improve accessibility and ease the movement of residents, visitors and users of the various facilities located within and around the estate.
The CDA stressed that while the installation of the 50 solar street lights represents a significant intervention, the complete upgrade of the approximately 1.2km estate road would further transform the community and complement the gains already recorded through improved lighting.
The community therefore appealed for continued attention to the road, noting that a properly upgraded road, combined with the newly installed solar street lights, would provide a more comprehensive solution to the estate’s infrastructure and accessibility challenges.
The GRA-1 CDA leadership stressed that the provision of functional street lighting was a long-standing need and praised Senator Abiru for listening to the concerns of the community and taking steps to address them.
“GRA-1 is brighter today,” the community said, expressing its gratitude to the senator for his contribution towards making the milestone possible.
The residents further described the installation as a demonstration of the importance of responsive representation and community-focused interventions, particularly projects that directly affect the daily lives and security of citizens.
The CDA Executive Committee, elders and residents consequently reaffirmed their appreciation to Senator Abiru, while expressing hope that the complete upgrade of the approximately 1.2km estate road would receive similar attention as the next major step towards transforming GRA-1 into a safer, more accessible and better-connected community.
