Former Deputy Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, accomplished legal practitioner, author, businessman and respected Ijebuland indigene, Rt. Hon. Edward Ayo-Odugbesan, has expressed immense joy following the call to the Nigerian Bar of his son, Barrister Christopher Ayo-Odugbesan.
Christopher, the third-born child of the former Deputy Speaker and the second of his sons to be called to the Nigerian Bar, successfully completed his legal training at the Nigerian Law School, adding another remarkable milestone to the Odugbesan family’s rich legacy of legal excellence and public service.
To celebrate the achievement, family members, friends, legal practitioners, political associates and well-wishers gathered at the ABC Club House for a colourful reception in honour of the newly inducted lawyer.
The reception was chaired by Mr. Rotimi Oguesan, SAN, while Gen. Shangonuga served as Co-Chairman. Other distinguished personalities in attendance included Aremo Ebenezer Fashola, Engineer Phillips, President of the Abuja Breakfast Club, alongside eminent guests from the legal, political and business communities.
In his remarks, Mr. Rotimi Oguesan, SAN, congratulated the new lawyer and urged him to build a legal career founded on diligence, professionalism and integrity.
“You must remain diligent, hardworking and strive to become a lawyer known for integrity. These qualities are the ladder to greater heights in life and in the legal profession,” the Senior Advocate of Nigeria advised.
Also speaking, Gen. Shangonuga encouraged Barrister Christopher Ayo-Odugbesan to uphold the family’s good name by following the exemplary path laid by his father.
He urged the young lawyer to remain disciplined, embrace integrity and contribute meaningfully to the administration of justice and national development.
Speaking emotionally at the reception, Rt. Hon. Edward Ayo-Odugbesan described the occasion as one of the proudest and most fulfilling moments of his life.
“It is a moment of immense joy and fulfillment for me as a father. I feel proud, grateful and deeply fulfilled to see my son attain this important milestone. Having practised law for over four decades, I understand the demands, sacrifices and responsibilities that come with the profession. Seeing him succeed makes me feel that the effort invested in raising and supporting him has been worthwhile.”
Reflecting on the values he has always sought to instill in his children, the former Deputy Speaker said humility, discipline, hard work and courage remain the pillars of success.
“I have always encouraged him to be humble, disciplined, hardworking and courageous enough to stand by what he believes is right. These values are the foundation of not only a successful legal career but also a meaningful and respected life.”
Offering fatherly advice to his son and other newly called lawyers, Odugbesan urged them to build careers anchored on integrity and excellence.
“My advice is simple: build your career on integrity and hard work. Your reputation is your greatest asset, so guard it jealously. Be committed to excellence, continue learning, respect the ethics of the profession and always use your knowledge to promote justice and serve humanity. Success will come naturally to those who remain honest, diligent and dedicated.”
Guests at the reception described the event as a celebration of family values, legal excellence and the enduring legacy of Rt. Hon. Edward Ayo-Odugbesan, whose distinguished legal career and public service continue to inspire younger generations.
