Kogi Security Forces Rescue Kidnapped Mother and Infant as Anti-Kidnapping Operations Intensify
Security forces in Kogi State have successfully rescued a woman and her six-month-old baby following a swift military operation against suspected kidnappers in Yagba West Local Government Area.
The rescue operation was carried out by troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, in collaboration with local vigilante operatives after armed criminals abducted five members of a family during a late-night attack in Egbe community.
According to security sources, the kidnappers invaded a residence near the Ijalu area of Egbe and forcefully took away a woman, her infant child, and three other relatives before fleeing into nearby forests.
Upon receiving a distress alert, troops immediately launched a coordinated pursuit operation alongside members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), tracking the kidnappers along their escape route. The sustained pressure mounted by the security team reportedly forced the criminals to abandon the woman and her baby near the Oro axis before escaping into surrounding bush paths.
The rescued victims were safely reunited with their family, while military personnel intensified search-and-rescue efforts to secure the release of the remaining abducted relatives and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The latest operation comes amid renewed efforts by security agencies to combat kidnapping and violent crimes across Kogi State. In recent days, troops have also rescued dozens of kidnapped passengers along major highways in the state, demonstrating an intensified crackdown on criminal networks operating in the region.
Military authorities reaffirmed their commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring residents that ongoing intelligence-driven operations would continue until criminal elements are neutralized and communities remain safe.
Residents were also urged to support security agencies with credible and timely information capable of preventing criminal activities and enhancing public safety across the state.
