Ogbomoso Abduction: Progressive Vision Movement Faults Atiku’s Criticism of Federal Government
The President of the Progressive Vision Movement (PVM), Omo Oba Gbadegeshin Alade, has criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his reaction to the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo State, accusing the opposition leader of politicizing a sensitive security challenge instead of supporting ongoing rescue efforts.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Alade expressed concern that Atiku’s comments appeared more focused on scoring political points against the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu than encouraging national unity in the face of a security crisis. He argued that at a time when families, communities, and security agencies are working tirelessly for the safe return of the victims, political leaders should prioritize constructive engagement and support for rescue operations.
According to the PVM leader, security challenges remain a national concern that requires collective responsibility rather than partisan attacks. He noted that insecurity has evolved over several years and administrations, making it unfair to place the burden of every incident solely on the current government without acknowledging the broader complexities involved in combating criminal networks across the country.
Alade further maintained that public figures should be careful not to make statements capable of undermining public confidence in security agencies currently working to secure the release of the abducted pupils and teachers. He stressed that criticism should be accompanied by practical suggestions and support for security reforms rather than rhetoric that may deepen political divisions.
The Progressive Vision Movement commended security agencies for their ongoing efforts and urged residents of Oyo State and Nigerians at large to cooperate with law enforcement authorities by providing credible intelligence that could aid rescue operations. The group also called on political leaders across party lines to unite behind efforts aimed at protecting schools, safeguarding communities, and strengthening national security.
While sympathizing with the affected families, Alade reiterated that the safe rescue of the victims should remain the immediate priority of all stakeholders. He urged Nigerians to avoid politicizing the tragedy and instead support initiatives capable of enhancing intelligence gathering, community policing, and the overall security architecture of the country.
The group concluded by calling for national unity, responsible political discourse, and sustained support for security agencies as they intensify efforts to ensure the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers.
