Oyo School Abduction: Atiku Demands Urgent Action, Says Government Must Prioritise Rescue Efforts
Former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts toward the safe rescue of abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State, warning that continued delays could further undermine public confidence in the nation’s security architecture.
Reacting to the recent abduction involving schoolchildren and their teachers, Atiku expressed deep concern over the growing wave of insecurity affecting schools and communities across the country. He described the incident as heartbreaking and unacceptable, stressing that the protection of children and educational institutions should remain a top national priority.
The former vice president urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security agencies to deploy every available resource to ensure the victims are rescued unharmed and reunited with their families as quickly as possible.
According to Atiku, the recurring attacks on schools and innocent citizens highlight the urgent need for more effective security measures and intelligence-driven operations to prevent similar incidents in the future. He noted that the safety of children must never be compromised under any circumstances.
He also sympathised with the affected families, the school community, and residents impacted by the incident, assuring them that Nigerians across the country share their pain and concerns during this difficult period.
The former presidential candidate called for greater coordination among security agencies, community leaders, and local stakeholders to strengthen intelligence gathering and improve responses to security threats in vulnerable areas.
Security analysts have repeatedly warned that attacks on educational institutions could have long-term consequences on learning, community development, and public trust. They maintain that swift rescue operations and proactive security measures remain critical to addressing the challenge.
As rescue efforts continue, many Nigerians have joined calls for decisive action to secure the release of the abducted pupils and teachers while strengthening security around schools and public institutions nationwide.
