2027 Presidency: Amaechi Rules Out Vice Presidential Ambition Amid ADC Power Struggle
Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has declared that he did not join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to pursue a vice presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Amaechi made the position known while addressing political stakeholders and supporters amid ongoing discussions surrounding coalition talks and possible alignments within opposition parties preparing to challenge the ruling APC in 2027.
The former presidential aspirant stressed that his political decisions are driven by principles and national interest, insisting that he has no intention of accepting a secondary role in any political arrangement.
His statement has further fueled speculation about growing internal power struggles and permutations within the ADC and opposition coalition movement ahead of the next presidential election.
Political observers believe Amaechi’s declaration may signal possible cracks within the opposition bloc, especially if he eventually fails to clinch the party’s presidential ticket. Analysts also suggest that the former Rivers governor could reconsider his stay in the party if the presidential ambition does not materialize, having openly stated that he did not join the ADC to become a vice presidential candidate.
Amaechi remains one of the influential political figures in Nigeria’s opposition politics, particularly in the South-South region, where his political structure and grassroots influence continue to attract attention ahead of the 2027 race.
The development comes amid increasing consultations, defections, and strategic alliances among opposition leaders seeking a formidable platform to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC in the next election cycle.
