Ekiti Reps Member Kolawole Akinlayo Faces N18m Contract Allegations Amid Claims Linking Suspected Thugs to Primary Election Disruption
Arrest of Suspected Armed Men Deepens Political Controversy Around APC Lawmaker
Hon. Kolawole Davidson Akinlayo, the member representing Ido-Osi/Moba/Ilejemeje Federal Constituency of Ekiti State in the House of Representatives, has come under intense public scrutiny following allegations surrounding an alleged N18 million contract-related transaction involving businessman Mr. Olorunfunmi Ademuyiwa.
The controversy has further escalated after reports emerged that some suspected thugs allegedly arrested with firearms and ammunition in a hotel were being investigated over an alleged plan to disrupt a recent political primary exercise in the state.
According to details gathered from sources familiar with the matter, the businessman alleged that the federal lawmaker received funds in 2024 with assurances of facilitating a contract opportunity that never materialized.
The payments were reportedly made into two separate bank accounts allegedly linked to the lawmaker and Kadyet Nigeria Limited. One of the accounts reportedly bears the name “Kolawole Akinlayo Davidson” with Stanbic IBTC Bank, while another payment was allegedly made into the account of Kadyet Nigeria Limited with Access Bank, Abuja.
Mr. Ademuyiwa claimed that despite fulfilling the financial requests tied to the proposed contract arrangement, the expected project failed to materialize, while repeated efforts to recover the funds allegedly proved unsuccessful.
He further alleged that communication between both parties became difficult after the payments were completed, although he claimed the lawmaker later contacted him with assurances that the money would be refunded.
Independent findings also revealed that Hon. Akinlayo is allegedly listed as a director of Kadyet Nigeria Limited, a development now generating discussions among legal and political observers over possible conflict-of-interest concerns involving public office holders.
Meanwhile, additional allegations have surfaced from some individuals described as contractors and political associates, who reportedly claimed they gave money to the lawmaker over promises allegedly connected to political arrangements and second-term ticket assurances ahead of the APC primary elections.
Political tension intensified after security operatives reportedly arrested some suspected thugs at a hotel within the state, where firearms and other ammunition were allegedly recovered during an operation.
Sources familiar with the investigation claimed that some of the suspects allegedly made statements during interrogation concerning plans to disrupt the primary election exercise. However, security agencies have not officially released any statement directly linking Hon. Akinlayo to the suspects or the alleged activities.
The allegations and recent security developments have nevertheless triggered widespread reactions within political circles in Ekiti State, especially following the outcome of the primary election contest.
Some political stakeholders alleged that the lawmaker has remained largely out of public view in recent days amid mounting pressure from aggrieved individuals demanding explanations and refunds over various alleged financial dealings.
Hon. Akinlayo, elected into the 10th National Assembly under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), currently serves on several House committees, including Finance, Petroleum Resources (Upstream), Housing and Habitat, Army, Ecological Fund, and Student Loans and Scholarship.
Before joining active politics, he built his reputation as a realtor, entrepreneur, and sociologist while sponsoring empowerment programmes and constituency projects within Ekiti State.
As of the time of filing this report, Hon. Kolawole Davidson Akinlayo had not issued an official statement responding to the allegations. Efforts to obtain his reaction and clarification on the claims were still ongoing.
Observers have called on relevant anti-corruption and security agencies to independently investigate the allegations and establish the true facts surrounding the controversy.
