Contractors Urge Taiwo Oyedele to Intervene Over Unpaid Government Debts
A group of contractors has called on the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Taiwo Oyedele, to intervene in the payment of outstanding debts owed by government agencies.
The contractors expressed concern over prolonged delays in settling verified payments for executed projects, noting that the situation has placed significant financial pressure on their businesses.
According to them, many contractors are struggling to meet operational costs, service loans, and complete ongoing projects due to the unpaid obligations. They warned that continued delays could lead to project abandonment and job losses across the construction and infrastructure sectors.
The group appealed to Oyedele to use his position to engage relevant authorities and facilitate the prompt settlement of the debts. They emphasised that clearing the backlog would not only support contractors but also stimulate economic activity and restore confidence in government contracts.
They further noted that timely payment is critical to sustaining the sector and ensuring the successful delivery of public infrastructure projects nationwide.
As of the time of reporting, there has been no official response from the fiscal policy committee regarding the contractors’ appeal.
