SSANU Raises Fresh Strike Threat Over Unresolved University Disputes

The union expressed frustration over what it described as the government’s continued neglect of agreements affecting non-teaching staff, particularly in areas such as salary payments, earned allowances, and ongoing renegotiations. SSANU noted that these issues have remained unresolved despite repeated engagements.
According to the union, non-teaching staff have been sidelined in key decisions and financial disbursements within the university system, a development it described as unfair and discriminatory. It stressed that failure to address these concerns could disrupt academic activities across public universities.
SSANU leadership warned that patience among its members is wearing thin, adding that it may be forced to embark on industrial action if the government fails to take urgent and meaningful steps to resolve the disputes.
The union also called on the Federal Government to demonstrate commitment by honouring previous agreements and ensuring equitable treatment of all categories of university workers. It maintained that a strike could be avoided if swift action is taken to address the lingering issues.
