Why Olamide Davies Talabi Stepped Down From Ogun Central Senatorial Race
Former Ogun Central Senatorial aspirant, Olamide Davies Talabi, has officially announced his withdrawal from the Ogun Central Senatorial race, citing concerns over internal party developments, personal well-being and the need for reflection and future preparation.
In a heartfelt statement released on May 15, 2026, Talabi expressed profound appreciation to supporters, political associates and well-wishers who stood firmly behind his senatorial ambition throughout the campaign period.
“With a heart filled with gratitude and deep emotions, I sincerely appreciate everyone who stood by me throughout my senatorial aspiration in Ogun State. Your support, encouragement, prayers, sacrifices and financial contributions meant so much to me. I will never take your love for granted,” he stated.
According to Talabi, despite the growing momentum and increasing support across Ogun Central, he decided to withdraw from the race after deep personal reflection and observations following a political meeting held at the residence of elder statesman, Olusegun Osoba.
He explained that while he was initially encouraged by the attitude of respected leaders who appeared committed to unity, peace and preservation of the progressive political legacy in Ogun State, subsequent developments raised serious concerns.
“A few days after our meeting at Chief Osoba’s residence, I returned home with mixed feelings. Initially, I was inspired by the body language of respected leaders whom I believed genuinely desired unity, growth and continuity within the party,” Talabi said.
“However, as events unfolded, I began to observe disturbing signs — desperation for power, personal interests above collective progress, greed and actions capable of creating unnecessary division within the party and among our people. Those realities deeply troubled my spirit.”
The former aspirant described the decision as one of the most painful moments of his political journey, noting that it meant temporarily stepping away from a vision he strongly believed in.
“This is definitely one of the most painful decisions of my life because it means temporarily abandoning a vision and mission I genuinely believed in. But at this moment, my safety, health and emotional well-being must come first,” he added.
Talabi emphasized that leadership goes beyond political ambition, stressing that wisdom, timing and peace are also critical components of responsible leadership.
“I have come to realize that leadership is not only about ambition; it is also about wisdom, timing and knowing when to step back for peace, healing and greater preparation ahead,” he noted.
Despite withdrawing from the Ogun Central Senatorial race, Talabi maintained that he remains committed to progressive politics, unity, development and selfless service to the people of Ogun State and Nigeria.
He assured supporters that his political journey was far from over, describing the withdrawal as a temporary pause for restoration and strategic preparation for future opportunities.
“By the grace of God, this is not the end of my journey; it is only a pause for restoration, reflection and greater preparation,” he concluded.
The development has continued to generate reactions within political circles in Ogun State, particularly among supporters who viewed Talabi as one of the emerging voices in the state’s evolving political landscape.
