UK Coroner Rules on Death of Nigerian Woman Following Mental Health Challenges
A coroner’s court in the United Kingdom has ruled that a 27-year-old Nigerian woman, Beatrice Solomon, died by suicide after experiencing prolonged mental health challenges linked to personal difficulties, according to findings presented during an inquest.
The inquest heard that Solomon, who relocated to the UK in November 2023 on a skilled worker visa, was found unresponsive at her residence by her husband after he briefly returned home from work. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but she was pronounced dead shortly afterward. Police investigations found no evidence of third-party involvement in her death.
During the hearing, the court was told that Solomon had struggled with her mental health over the past year. Testimony also indicated that concerns about her wellbeing had emerged before the incident. A post-mortem examination established the medical cause of death, and the coroner concluded that the evidence supported a finding of suicide.
In delivering the ruling, the coroner extended condolences to Solomon’s family and friends, acknowledging the profound impact of the loss. Solomon, who worked as a caregiver in the UK, is survived by her husband, a young son and other family members.
Mental health professionals continue to encourage people experiencing emotional distress to seek support from trusted family members, friends or qualified healthcare providers, stressing that early intervention can make a significant difference.
