Tompolo Urges Dialogue and Restraint Amid Niger Delta Ward Delineation Dispute
Prominent Niger Delta leader and Chairman of Tantita Security Services, Government Ekpemupolo, has called on stakeholders to remain calm and embrace peaceful dialogue over the ongoing controversy surrounding ward delineation in parts of the Niger Delta region.
Tompolo appealed to political leaders, community stakeholders, youth groups, and residents to avoid actions capable of escalating tensions, stressing that peaceful engagement remains the best approach to resolving disagreements arising from the ward delineation process.
According to him, issues relating to electoral boundaries and political representation should be handled through established legal and constitutional channels rather than through protests, violence, or inflammatory rhetoric. He emphasized that maintaining peace and stability in the region must remain a priority for all parties involved.
The Niger Delta leader noted that the region has made significant progress in promoting peace, economic development, and investment opportunities over the years, warning that any breakdown of law and order could undermine those gains.
Tompolo urged affected communities to exercise patience while relevant authorities continue consultations and review concerns raised by stakeholders. He expressed confidence that a fair and equitable resolution could be achieved through constructive dialogue and mutual understanding.
He further called on government institutions, traditional rulers, community leaders, and political actors to work together in preserving harmony and ensuring that the interests of all groups are adequately protected throughout the delineation process.
Observers say the ward delineation debate has generated intense political discussions in some communities, with stakeholders expressing differing views on representation and administrative boundaries. However, many have echoed calls for peaceful engagement and respect for democratic processes.
Tompolo reaffirmed his commitment to peace, unity, and sustainable development in the Niger Delta, urging residents to remain law-abiding while awaiting decisions from the appropriate authorities.
The appeal comes amid ongoing efforts to strengthen democratic institutions and promote inclusive governance across the region, with stakeholders hopeful that dialogue will pave the way for a lasting and peaceful resolution.
