Tinubu Returns to Nigeria, Dismisses Health Rumours and Resumes Agenda
ABUJA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after an extended working vacation in Europe, declaring that he is healthy and ready to resume his official responsibilities.
Tinubu arrived in Lagos on Tuesday after spending about four weeks outside the country. Speaking to journalists after his arrival, the President dismissed concerns about his health, saying there was “nothing wrong” with him and that he was ready to work.
The President’s comments came after weeks of public discussion surrounding his prolonged absence from Nigeria and the extension of his return date. The Presidency had maintained that Tinubu remained in contact with developments at home and continued to direct government affairs while abroad.
Tinubu said the health speculation was linked to political activities, adding that the reality was that he had returned to the country in good condition. His remarks provided his first direct response to the speculation following his return.
The President’s first stop in Nigeria is Lagos, where he is scheduled to participate in activities marking the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary. According to the Presidency, he will attend the premiere of a film honouring the late MKO Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre on October 1.
Beyond the Independence Day programme, Tinubu is expected to hold meetings with political leaders and associates in Lagos before returning to Abuja. The engagements are expected to include discussions ahead of the 2027 political season.
The President’s return also comes as attention shifts back to the administration’s domestic agenda following his extended stay abroad. His public schedule in the coming days is expected to provide a clearer indication of the pace at which he will resume physical participation in official engagements.
Meanwhile, claims circulating online about Tinubu’s health have also attracted fact-checking attention. A video being circulated as evidence of a recent health problem was found by FactWatch to be an older clip from January 2026, rather than footage from the President’s September return.
Tinubu’s return therefore places the focus back on his official activities, government agenda and political engagements as Nigeria moves towards the 2027 elections.
