Three die as car plunges into a river in Ogun
Three persons have reportedly died while one other sustained injuries when a Toyota sienna car they were travelling in plunged into Omo river around Area J4 on the Ijebu Ode-Benin expressway.
The Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC),Ogun, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident to journalists in Abeokuta on Saturday.
She explained that the accident occured at 11:55am , adding that the suspected cause of the crash was excessive speed and loss of control which caused the vehicle to plunge into the river.
Okpe stated further that the vehicle with number plate APP 830 HX was coming from Benin heading to Lagos when the incident occurred.
The state FRSC spokesperson added that three male adults were found dead while one person sustained injuries in the lone accident.
Meanwhile she said the injured victim was taken to Hope Clinic J4 in Ijebu East Local Government area of Ogun state while the deceased were deposited at the state General Hospital morgue , Ijebu-ode.
Okpe noted that the state Sector Commander,FRSC, Anthony Uga , described the crash as “avoidable if caution was considered.”
While Uga appreciated the effort of the local divers for the rescue operation, he sympathised with the family of the victims, advising them to contact FRSC Ogbere outpost for more information about the crash.
