Two Feared Dead as Gas Tanker Collision Sparks Massive Inferno in Lagos
A tragic gas explosion rocked the Ajah area of Lagos in the early hours of Saturday after a collision involving a gas tanker and a truck triggered a massive fire outbreak.
The incident occurred along the Lekki-Epe Expressway near Tera Ahmed bus stop in Sangotedo. Reports indicate that a speeding tipper truck rammed into a stationary gas tanker, leading to a powerful explosion that quickly spread to nearby structures.
At least two people — identified as the tipper driver and his assistant — were feared dead in the blaze, with both victims burnt beyond recognition.
The fire caused extensive damage, engulfing multiple warehouses and several roadside shops, including a gym and other small businesses. Several vehicles within the vicinity were also destroyed in the inferno.
Emergency responders from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service arrived promptly at the scene and were able to contain the fire, preventing it from spreading further to a nearby filling station and other critical assets.
Authorities confirmed that the driver of the gas tanker escaped unharmed, while recovery and evacuation efforts were carried out to clear the wreckage and restore normal traffic flow in the area.
The incident has once again raised concerns over road safety and the dangers posed by heavy-duty vehicles transporting flammable materials on busy highways in Lagos.
