Wizkid Closes In on Historic 11 Billion Spotify Streams Milestone
Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Wizkid is on the verge of achieving another groundbreaking global music milestone as he edges closer to 11 billion total streams on Spotify.
Latest streaming data shows the Grammy-winning singer, born Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, has already surpassed 10.8 billion streams across all credits on the music platform, placing him just about 200 million streams away from reaching the historic 11 billion mark.
Industry observers project that the milestone could be reached before the end of June 2026, considering Wizkid’s strong daily streaming numbers and consistent global audience growth.
The “Essence” crooner has continued to dominate global streaming charts through successful albums, collaborations, and international tours that have elevated Afrobeats to mainstream global recognition. His collaborations with global stars including Drake, Beyoncé, and Justin Bieber have significantly boosted his streaming records over the years.
Wizkid previously became the first African artist to surpass 10 billion Spotify streams earlier in 2026, reinforcing his position as one of Africa’s biggest music exports.
Among his most successful projects is the critically acclaimed album Made in Lagos, which has recorded massive global success and contributed significantly to the worldwide growth of Afrobeats. His hit song Essence featuring Tems remains one of the most-streamed Afrobeats songs on Spotify.
Music analysts say the anticipated 11 billion-stream milestone will further cement Wizkid’s legacy as one of the most influential African musicians in modern music history while highlighting the continued global rise of Afrobeats.
