Fury-Joshua Fight Faces Fresh Uncertainty Over Promoter Dispute

Fury-Joshua Fight Faces Fresh Uncertainty Over Promoter Dispute
By Akin Alade
The long-awaited Tyson Fury-Anthony Joshua heavyweight showdown has been hit by fresh uncertainty, with Fury claiming that a dispute involving rival promoters could threaten the December 11 blockbuster in Cardiff.
Fury and Joshua are officially scheduled to meet at Principality Stadium on December 11 in what will be their first professional encounter. The all-British heavyweight clash is also set to stream live on Netflix, after years of failed negotiations and repeated delays.
However, the focus has shifted from preparations for the fight to the latest disagreement surrounding its promotion. Fury has accused Anthony Joshua and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, of attempting to pull out of the contest, alleging that tensions involving Hearn and UFC chief Dana White have created another obstacle.
Fury made the claims while also stepping up his verbal assault on Joshua, insisting that he expects to stop his fellow former world champion inside six or seven rounds. He described Joshua as a stepping stone towards a potential third meeting with Oleksandr Usyk.
The latest development is significant because the Fury-Joshua fight has already survived several rounds of uncertainty before finally being announced. The venue had been a major sticking point during negotiations, with the two sides eventually agreeing on Cardiff as the location for the December showdown.
Despite the latest controversy, there has been no official announcement that the fight has been cancelled. Netflix continues to list Fury versus Joshua for December 11, while the organisers have also announced plans for a September 30 press conference in London.
For Joshua, the immediate challenge will be to turn the growing promotional drama into motivation ahead of the biggest fight of his career. The British heavyweight recently recovered from two early knockdowns against Kristian Prenga before stopping him in the second round, while Fury most recently recorded a seventh-round stoppage of Mariusz Wach.
With the December date still officially standing, attention now turns to whether the latest disagreement can be resolved without affecting the event. Until both camps provide clarity, the biggest question surrounding Fury versus Joshua may be whether the highly anticipated fight reaches the ring without another twist.
