PFIPC Scandal: Calls Grow for Senate, Gbajabiamila Probe After Adeyemi’s Arrest
Calls for a comprehensive investigation into the alleged activities of the controversial Peace Fund for Infrastructure and Project Coordination (PFIPC) have intensified following the arrest of its self-acclaimed Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, by the Nigeria Police Force.
Adeyemi was arrested over allegations bordering on fraud, impersonation, forgery and the unlawful operation of an organisation reportedly presented as a federal government agency without legal backing.
The development has sparked fresh demands from civil society groups, legal experts and concerned Nigerians for the National Assembly, particularly the Senate, as well as the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, to investigate the circumstances surrounding PFIPC’s operations and the individuals allegedly linked to the organisation.
Critics argue that a thorough probe is necessary to establish how the group allegedly operated, identify those who may have facilitated its activities, and prevent similar incidents from recurring.
The police have maintained that investigations into the case are ongoing, with detectives reportedly examining documents, financial transactions and other evidence connected to the organisation’s operations.
Authorities also disclosed that additional suspects could be invited or arrested if investigations reveal further involvement in the alleged fraud.
Stakeholders have urged law enforcement agencies to conduct a transparent and impartial investigation, stressing that anyone found culpable should be prosecuted in accordance with the law, regardless of status or political affiliation.
The growing controversy surrounding PFIPC has continued to generate national attention, with many Nigerians calling for stronger oversight of organisations claiming affiliation with government institutions.
