Reps Demand Full Disclosure of CBN, NNPCL Unremitted Operating Surplus
The House of Representatives has called for the full disclosure of alleged unremitted operating surpluses by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and other revenue-generating government agencies.
The lawmakers said the move is aimed at strengthening fiscal transparency, improving public accountability and ensuring that all funds due to the Federal Government are remitted in line with existing financial regulations.
During plenary, members of the House expressed concern over reports indicating that several government-owned institutions may have failed to remit operating surpluses into the Consolidated Revenue Fund as required by law.
The lawmakers stressed that transparency in the management of public finances is essential to sustaining public confidence and promoting prudent governance.
Consequently, the House directed the appropriate committees to investigate the alleged non-remittance and engage the affected agencies to provide detailed records of their revenues, expenditures and operating surpluses.
The investigation is expected to determine the extent of compliance with relevant financial laws and identify any outstanding liabilities owed to the Federal Government.
Lawmakers also maintained that agencies found to have violated statutory financial obligations should be held accountable in accordance with the law.
The House reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening legislative oversight and ensuring that all public institutions operate with transparency, accountability and strict adherence to financial regulations.
