LASBCA Partially Demolishes Illegal Structures in Surulere Over Building Regulation Violations
The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has partially demolished several illegally constructed buildings behind Barracks Bus Stop in Surulere as part of its ongoing enforcement of building regulations and urban planning laws across Lagos State.
The agency said the enforcement exercise followed the discovery that the affected structures exceeded approved setback limits and failed to comply with statutory building regulations. According to officials, the developers commenced construction without obtaining the required approvals, contrary to the provisions of the state’s building and physical planning laws.
LASBCA explained that the affected property owners had earlier been served with several contravention and enforcement notices, directing them to halt construction and regularise their projects. However, the developers allegedly failed to comply, prompting the agency to carry out the partial demolition.
The agency stated that the affected buildings posed potential safety risks to occupants, neighbouring properties and the surrounding environment, stressing that the enforcement action was necessary to prevent building collapse and ensure public safety.
LASBCA reiterated its commitment to enforcing building standards across Lagos State, noting that it will continue to monitor construction activities and take appropriate action against developers who violate planning regulations.
The agency also advised property owners, contractors and developers to obtain all necessary planning permits and building approvals before embarking on any construction project. It urged residents to report illegal developments and distressed buildings to the appropriate authorities to promote a safer and more orderly built environment.
