Sultan Backs Renewed Crackdown on Terrorists, Urges Sustained Military Offensive
The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, has thrown his weight behind the Federal Government’s intensified military operations against terrorists, bandits and other criminal groups, urging security agencies to sustain the ongoing offensive until lasting peace is restored across the country.
The revered traditional ruler commended the renewed security operations targeting terrorist enclaves and hideouts, describing the campaign as a necessary step toward protecting innocent Nigerians and reclaiming communities affected by insurgency and banditry. He stressed that criminal elements should not be allowed safe havens to continue threatening lives and national stability.
The Sultan called on Nigerians to continue supporting the Armed Forces and other security agencies by providing credible intelligence capable of aiding ongoing counter-terrorism operations. He noted that defeating terrorism requires not only military action but also cooperation between citizens, community leaders and relevant authorities.
He further urged religious leaders, traditional institutions and community stakeholders to promote peace, national unity and vigilance, while encouraging Nigerians to reject all forms of extremism and criminality. According to him, collective responsibility remains essential in addressing the country’s security challenges.
The endorsement comes as Nigerian security forces intensify coordinated operations across several regions, recording significant gains against terrorist groups through intelligence-led offensives, the destruction of criminal camps, the arrest of suspected collaborators and the rescue of kidnapped victims. Recent military operations have also led to the neutralisation of hundreds of terrorists and the recovery of weapons and logistics used by criminal groups.
The renewed campaign reflects the Federal Government’s determination to deny terrorists operational bases and strengthen national security through sustained military pressure and improved inter-agency collaboration.
