The 25-year-old who has been in a sensational form has also been targeted by Palace manager Patrick Vieira as a possible replacement for Conor Gallagher, who is on loan from Chelsea.

Aribo was a key part of Steven Gerrard’s plan at Rangers, when Gerrard helped the club end a 10-year wait for a domestic league title. A reunion between both manager and player is looking likely on the cards.

Watford and Brentford are the Premier League clubs rumoured to be interested in the services of the Nigerian.

Meanwhile, according to fansnetwork.co.uk, a British website, the Saints are also now said to be chasing Aribo, who is about to enter the last year of his current contracts with the Gers.

“The silly season of the January transfer window is only just over a week away from opening and already Saints are being linked with a raft of players and the latest is Joe Aribo a 25-year-old central midfielder from Scottish Club Rangers who can also play out wide,” the website wrote.

“Reports claim a scout from St Mary’s was at Ibrox to watch Rangers’ 1-0 victory over Dundee United on Saturday.

“But initially there was not a lot to see as Aribo was on the bench as Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst rested Aribo and he didn’t appear until the hour mark with the scores deadlocked.”

Aribo joined the Gers in 2019 from Charlton and has made 116 appearances for them, scoring 23 times with 18 assists.

He has 12 caps for the Super Eagles, scoring two goals and is expected to be part of the team to next year’s AFCON in Cameroon.
