Senator Yayi To Train Ogun West Students On AI Invention
Senator Solomon Adeola Yayi, APC Ogun West, has disclosed that plans are underway to train students in Ogun West Senatorial District on AI development and application.
Senator Adeola posited that with the ongoing computer literacy among his constituents, it would be easier to escalate their ICT knowledge on AI application, hence making the senatorial district a technology hub of the nation.
Adeola, who doubles as Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriations, added that liberating the people of the senatorial district remains his utmost priority to secure their future.
The lawmaker spoke on Sunday at the grand finale of Special ICT Programme for secondary schools in professional certification held at Asade Agunloye hall, Ilaro.
The ICT programme was in continuation of his seven-day mega empowerment and town hall meeting with his constituents.
The Senator also dazzled both secondary school and higher institution students with distribution of laptops, scholarship awards, and bursary payments.
At the distribution of the scholarship and bursary awards, a total number of 3,881 beneficiaries were given the sum of N269,600,000.
According to the Chairman, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola’s scholarship board, Prof. Tope Popoola, the scholarship awards and bursary payment cut across the 20 local government areas of Ogun State.
Prof. Popoola explained that, a total number of 1,419 students benefited from the N100,000 bursary payment from Ogun West senatorial district, while 958 students from the five local government areas in Ogun West were also given scholarships of N200,000 each.
He stressed further that a total number of 1,515 students from both Ogun Central and Ogun East senatorial districts also benefited from the scholarship and bursary payment, respectively.
Prof. Popoola said the 2024/25 scholarship and bursary schemes surpassed the 2023/24 edition by over 2000.
He submitted that, since the official unveiling and flag off of the Board in November 2024, over 8,000 applicants from over 100 institutions applied for the schemes.
He maintained that the committee abided by international standard practices during the screening exercise and stood against all forms of sharp practices.
He thanked the traditional rulers, parents, and students associations in the dissemination of information about the scheme.
Addressing the scholarship beneficiaries at the frontier hotel, Ilaro, Senator Adeola Yayi said the bursary and scholarship awards was part of his fulfillment of his electoral promises to the youths of his senatorial district and in compliment of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Chairman, Senate Appropriations Committee posited that the scheme was to assuage the financial difficulties of indigent students in paying their school fees.
The scheme facilitated in conjunction with National Productivity Centre, Abuja was to bring relief to the students in the course of their training and acquisition of knowledge as well as supplement the fund from those able to get loans from Nigeria Education Loan Fund, NELFUND.
In the same vein, Senator Adeola Olamilekan Yayi gave laptop computers to 613 secondary school students in Ogun West senatorial district.
The beneficiaries were drawn from the five local government areas of Ogun West senatorial district.
He said the beneficiaries have been trained in basic computer appreciation and various applications.
He noted that their further mastery of the 0arious uses and familiarity with the world of ICT can only be enhanced through regular usage and practice on their personal computers.
Addressing the students at the laptops’ distribution, which took place at the Asade Agunloye pavilion, Senator Adeola Yayi urged them not to be tempted to sell the laptops.
The special ICT programme was facilitated by National Centre for Agricultural Mechanization (NCAM).
