Progressive Vision Movement Defends Tinubu’s Economic Reforms, Faults ADC’s Criticism
The Progressive Vision Movement (PVM) has dismissed the African Democratic Congress (ADC)’s latest criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic policies, describing it as another politically motivated statement lacking facts, economic understanding and constructive alternatives.
In a statement signed by its President, Omo Oba Gbadegeshin Alade, the group said the repeated attacks by the opposition have become predictable, insisting that Nigerians deserve issue-based politics rather than constant condemnation without practical solutions.
According to the Movement, the ADC should engage the services of competent and knowledgeable economists before issuing public statements on complex economic reforms, noting that many of its recent comments have misrepresented the realities of Nigeria’s ongoing economic transition.
PVM argued that while President Tinubu’s reforms have demanded sacrifices from Nigerians, they have also attracted recognition from several international institutions that have acknowledged the government’s commitment to long-term economic restructuring and fiscal reforms. The group said it was unfortunate that instead of presenting alternative economic strategies, the ADC has continued to criticise every policy without offering a clear roadmap for achieving better outcomes.
“The hallmark of any credible opposition is to provide practical alternatives, not endless criticism. Nigerians are yet to hear what the ADC would have done differently to address the nation’s economic challenges. It is not enough to condemn government policies; responsible leadership requires presenting workable solutions,” the statement said.
The Movement noted that no nation undergoing major structural economic reforms can expect instant results within a few years, stressing that sustainable economic recovery requires consistency, patience and national support.
PVM further stated that many of those now attacking the present administration were active participants in previous governments whose policies contributed to many of the structural challenges confronting Nigeria today. According to the group, it is therefore unfair for such individuals to pretend they bear no responsibility for the country’s economic difficulties.
The organisation urged Nigerians to reject what it described as politics of misinformation and embrace constructive national dialogue capable of strengthening democracy and supporting genuine economic development.
“Our country has moved beyond politics of fear and propaganda. Nigerians are becoming more discerning and can distinguish between genuine concern for national development and politically motivated narratives designed to score cheap points. This is the time to allow the government to implement its reforms while holding it accountable through facts and constructive engagement,” the statement added.
Progressive Vision Movement reaffirmed its confidence in President Tinubu’s administration, expressing optimism that the ongoing economic reforms would ultimately deliver sustainable growth, improved investment, job creation and greater prosperity for Nigerians.
