Sowore Vows to Reverse Public Facilities Named After Tinubu, Others if Elected
Human rights activist and presidential hopeful, Omoyele Sowore, has pledged to reverse the naming of public facilities after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other political figures if elected president in the 2027 general election.
Sowore made the declaration while outlining his vision for governance, arguing that public institutions and infrastructure should not be named after serving political leaders or individuals for political recognition. He maintained that national assets belong to all Nigerians and should reflect the country’s collective heritage rather than partisan interests.
According to the former presidential candidate, his administration would review the names of public infrastructure, institutions and monuments named after political office holders, insisting that merit, historical significance and national contribution should guide such decisions.
Sowore also criticised what he described as the growing culture of personality worship in governance, saying government resources should be focused on improving the welfare of citizens rather than promoting the image of political leaders.
He stressed that his administration, if elected, would prioritise accountability, transparency and institutional reforms aimed at strengthening democratic governance and restoring public confidence in government.
The remarks come amid ongoing political activities and alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with aspirants and political parties unveiling their plans and policy proposals for the country’s future.
Sowore reaffirmed his commitment to implementing reforms that, according to him, would promote national unity, protect public institutions and ensure that government policies serve the interests of all Nigerians.
