Oyo 2027: Ex-Attorney-General Backs Sharafadeen Alli for Governor
The 2027 governorship ambition of Senator Sharafadeen Alli has received another public endorsement following a call by former Oyo State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Adebayo Mutalubi Ojo (SAN), for residents to support the All Progressives Congress candidate.
Ojo, in a personally signed statement on Thursday, presented Alli as an experienced administrator who, in his view, possesses the qualities required to lead Oyo State after the current administration. He urged voters to assess the leadership credentials of those seeking to govern the state as the 2027 election approaches.
The former Attorney-General said the state needs leadership built around administrative competence, compassion, selflessness and independence. His intervention adds another voice to the political conversations surrounding Alli’s candidacy and the emerging contest over Oyo State’s post-2027 direction.
Alli, currently representing Oyo South Senatorial District, is the APC governorship candidate, with Adesoji Adedeji as his running mate. The ticket has recently intensified grassroots mobilisation, including engagements in Saki and Ogbomoso focusing on youth participation, workers’ welfare, education, investment and local government administration.
Ojo specifically urged residents to support Alli, arguing that his experience would position him to provide the type of administration he believes Oyo State requires. The remarks represent Ojo’s political assessment and endorsement rather than an independent evaluation of the candidate’s record.
With political activities gathering momentum ahead of 2027, endorsements from former public office holders and other stakeholders are expected to form part of the broader contest by parties and candidates to build support across Ibadan, Oke-Ogun, Ogbomoso, Oyo and Ibarapa.
The latest declaration therefore adds to the developing political debate around the Oyo governorship race as Alli and the APC seek to expand their coalition while other parties and candidates intensify their own campaigns for the Agodi Government House.
