Ondo Social Cash Transfer: Princess Kikelomo Ikuomola Leads Elderly Enrolment in Obe-Nla
*OBE-NLA, ILAJE, ONDO STATE:* It was a celebration of culture, community solidarity, and inclusive development as Hon. (Princess) Kikelomo Ikuomola, Special Adviser to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa on Public and Intergovernmental Relations, visited Obe-Nla in Ilaje Local Government Area to flag off the enrolment of elderly residents under the Federal Government’s Social Cash Transfer Programme, implemented in collaboration with the Ondo State Government.

The visit attracted a large gathering of community members, traditional representatives, religious leaders, youths, and elderly residents, who turned out to welcome the Special Adviser and her delegation.
The reception showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Ilaje people through traditional performances, boat regatta, Obele Ajowa, and colourful displays by community groups.
Beyond the cultural festivities, the central purpose of the visit was to facilitate the enrolment of eligible elderly residents for consideration under the Social Cash Transfer Programme, which provides financial support to qualifying vulnerable households.
Addressing the gathering, Princess Ikuomola emphasised the importance of community participation in the registration process, urging residents to make themselves available whenever authorised government officials visit their localities. She explained that accurate registration and verification are essential steps in determining eligibility under the programme.
TINUBU’S RENEWED HOPE AGENDA: SOCIAL PROTECTION THAT REACHES THE PEOPLE
The Social Cash Transfer Programme reflects the broader objective of the Federal Government’s social investment agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu: extending support to vulnerable households and strengthening the social protection system for Nigerians facing economic hardship.
Through initiatives of this nature, the focus extends beyond financial assistance to the fundamental need for security, dignity, and hope. For vulnerable elderly citizens, even modest support can help ease daily pressures, provide some reassurance, and offer something tangible to hold on to in difficult times.
The importance of these interventions lies in ensuring that vulnerable Nigerians are not forgotten and that social protection reaches beyond major cities to rural and riverine communities where access to information and public services can be challenging.
GOVERNOR AIYEDATIWA: BRINGING SOCIAL INVESTMENT CLOSER TO ONDO COMMUNITIES
At the state level, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s administration has a critical role in facilitating the implementation of federal social investment initiatives and strengthening engagement with communities across Ondo State.
Through coordination with relevant institutions and community-level mobilisation, the state can help eligible residents understand available programmes and participate in the registration processes required for consideration.
The Obe-Nla exercise illustrates the importance of connecting government policies with the people they are intended to serve. It also reinforces the need for sustained collaboration between the Federal Government, the Ondo State Government, and local communities to expand awareness and improve access to social protection.
For Princess Ikuomola, whose portfolio encompasses public and intergovernmental relations, the visit provided an opportunity to strengthen communication between government and citizens while encouraging community participation in relevant social investment programmes.
She reiterated the importance of ensuring that eligible vulnerable residents across the state are identified and considered under appropriate interventions. She also assured the gathering that young people would be considered under relevant empowerment initiatives.
*NO COMMUNITY WILL BE LEFT BEHIND*
The enrolment exercise at Obe-Nla underscores the importance of extending social investment initiatives to underserved riverine communities, ensuring that geographical location does not become a barrier to awareness and access.
It sends a message that the elderly and other vulnerable members of society deserve to be recognised, included, and given opportunities to access available government support.
Ultimately, the success of social investment programmes depends not only on policy announcements but also on effective implementation, transparent registration, proper verification, and sustained engagement with the people.
From the Renewed Hope social investment agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the implementation of relevant interventions across Ondo State under Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, the shared objective is to ensure that vulnerable citizens have access to meaningful support, greater reassurance, and renewed hope for a better tomorrow.
The message from Obe-Nla is simple: government support must reach the people, dignity must remain at the heart of social protection, and no eligible vulnerable citizen will be left behind.
