Ogun 2027: Only God Knows Who Will Become Next Governor – Gbenga Daniel
Former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has said that only God knows who will emerge as the next governor of Ogun State in the 2027 general election, urging politicians and their supporters to avoid making premature declarations about the state’s leadership succession.
Daniel made the remark while addressing the growing political debate over the 2027 governorship race, stressing that no individual or political group has the power to determine the outcome ahead of the election. According to him, the final decision rests with God and, ultimately, the people of Ogun State through the democratic process.
The former governor called on political actors to focus on strengthening democratic institutions instead of engaging in divisive rhetoric or unnecessary political tension. He noted that while political consultations and endorsements are part of democracy, they should not be interpreted as a guarantee of electoral victory.
Daniel also urged supporters of various aspirants to conduct their campaigns peacefully and avoid actions capable of overheating the political atmosphere. He maintained that every qualified aspirant has the constitutional right to seek elective office and should be allowed to test their popularity through a transparent democratic process.
His comments come amid increasing political realignments and consultations ahead of the 2027 Ogun governorship election, with several prominent politicians already being linked to the race. The succession battle has continued to attract public attention as political stakeholders position themselves for what is expected to be one of the state’s most closely watched elections.
Daniel reiterated that regardless of political calculations and endorsements, the emergence of the next governor remains in God’s hands, urging politicians to place the interests of Ogun State above personal ambitions and work towards maintaining peace, unity, and democratic stability.
