Fubara Defends Himself
The suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has rejected claims that he is associated with militant groups amid the ongoing political crisis in the state. In a statement released on Monday, Fubara expressed disappointment over the attempts to wrongly link him to violent groups and activities.
The statement, signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, addressed the recent reports of explosions and attacks on oil facilities in the state. Fubara clarified that the communities where these incidents were allegedly reported have publicly rejected the claims, assuring that all critical government assets in those areas remain secure.
Fubara denounced the spread of fake videos and misleading reports that tried to connect the supposed attacks to his supporters. “Almost all the fake videos have been tied to alleged militant groups, with those behind them trying to link them to supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara,” the statement said.

He reiterated that he has no connection to any militant group and emphasized his commitment to peace in the state. “Governor Siminalayi Fubara has no link to any militant group, does not contemplate any such association, and has no reason to encourage any criminal group or elements,” he affirmed. “Peace in the State is my top priority, and I will do whatever it takes to ensure that peace and security are maintained.”
Fubara also issued a strong warning to anyone attempting to exploit the political situation to incite violence. He urged those involved in criminal activities to desist, stressing the importance of stability for the state’s progress. The governor also called on bloggers and social media users to stop spreading false information that could fuel chaos and undermine efforts to restore peace.
In conclusion, Fubara appealed for calm, underlining that only in a peaceful environment can governance and development continue to flourish.
