The transition committee chairman, Abeokuta North Local Government Prince Tunde Tella has empowered 25 People of the local government with cash.
This is part of his efforts to fulfil his promises to people and also give back to the people of the local government.
The beneficiaries were given N10,000 each to start business of their choice
The empowerment programme was held at the Local Government Secretariat, Akomoje, Abeokuta, the State Capital.
Recall that recently the Transition Chairman commissioned some landmark projects in Abeokuta North which led to his nomination for LOGMA award.
Tella while speaking with journalists during the event, explained that just of recent, he has commissioned five boreholes last week, one VIP toilet, two solar power energy adding that the empowerment is just a plus.
He said, “Last week, we recorded a lot of successes in the project that we have commissioned so we now felt that we should move to another section of development which is empowering our people. We felt we should replicate what the governor has been doing.
“Just after the election, the governor gave out 10,000 naira tagged “Okowo Dapo”.
“We also realized that the Federal government came up with the same program. We now felt if the government is doing that at the Federal level, the State government is also doing that, we should also be doing same too at the local Government level.
“That is exactly what we have done today. It’s just a continuation of giving back to our people. We have done 25 now and we are still going to do more.
“We decided to empower our people so that it can help them in their trading activities and whatever they lay their hands on.
“My advice to the beneficiaries is that they should use the money well, because Nigeria of today whatever you have at hand, you have to use it very well.
“Some people started business without any money at hand, but they have something to start with now.
“We will still do more for them to increase their capacity. As long as we have money, we will continue to do it because they are our people and they will be responsible to the society once they are well taken care of” he concluded.
One of the beneficiaries Mrs Bolanle Opebiyi from ward 5 Abeokuta North appreciated the chairman for the job well done.
She said ” the Chairman did not give us fish but taught us how to catch fish. May Almighty God continue to guide him”she affirmed.
Other beneficiaries also thanked Tella for putting them in mind. They described him as an outstanding leader.
