Lagos State Issues Contravention Notices to Buildings in Lekki for Violating Waterfront Setback Regulations

Several buildings in Lekki, Lagos, have been issued contravention and stop-work notices by the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development (MWID) for allegedly violating the state’s waterfront setback regulations.
This follows a recent inspection by the ministry’s monitoring team, which identified several ongoing projects in gated estates in Lekki that were found to be in breach of the established rules. Estates visited by the ministry’s team included Megamound Estate near Lekki County, Victoria Crest III and IV, Oral Estate, and Pine Estate along Orchid Road.
The Ministry reported that several structures were flagged for encroaching on the designated waterfront setback areas. In response to these violations, the Commissioner for the Ministry, Ekundayo Alebiosu, emphasized the importance of adhering to waterfront regulatory laws. He advised all stakeholders involved in property development to ensure they obtain the proper approvals before commencing any projects near the state’s waterfronts.
Alebiosu warned that future inspections of the affected areas would lead to a total clampdown on non-compliant structures, urging the violators to cease all illegal activities or face legal consequences. The ministry’s stance signals the state’s commitment to maintaining and enforcing its environmental and urban development laws to protect waterfront areas and ensure sustainable development.
