Iyabo Obasanjo Denies Yayi’s Money Demand Claim, Accuses APC Candidate of Blackmail
Former Ogun State governorship aspirant, Dr. Iyabo Obasanjo, has denied allegations that she demanded money from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, describing the claim as false, misleading and an attempt to tarnish her reputation.
Responding to the allegation, Iyabo Obasanjo insisted she neither requested nor received any financial inducement from the APC candidate or his associates. She accused Yayi of resorting to blackmail and political propaganda to deflect attention from issues surrounding his governorship ambition, adding that such allegations reflect a growing trust deficit in his political approach.
The former presidential daughter maintained that her political engagements have always been guided by principles of transparency, integrity and accountability. She challenged those making the allegations to provide credible evidence to support their claims, stressing that she would not be intimidated by what she described as baseless accusations aimed at discrediting her before the people of Ogun State.
Iyabo Obasanjo further urged political actors to focus on issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2027 governorship election rather than engaging in character assassination and misinformation. She said the people of Ogun deserve a contest built on ideas, competence and credible plans for development instead of personal attacks.
The exchange is expected to intensify political activities in Ogun State as parties and aspirants continue consultations and campaigns ahead of the 2027 governorship election. Political observers believe the controversy underscores the increasingly competitive nature of the race for the state’s top office.
