Governor Makinde Under Pressure as PVM Demands Stronger Security Response in Oyo State

The President of Progressive Vision Movement (PVM), Omo Oba Gbadegeshin Alade, has called on Governor Seyi Makinde to take stronger and more decisive action against the worsening security situation in Oyo State, warning that the continued abduction of schoolchildren, teachers, and residents has become a source of growing concern across the state.
Speaking during a World Press Conference held in Ogbomoso on Sunday, Omo Oba Gbadegeshin Alade said the recent revelation that over 200 operatives of the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun Corps, have lost their lives in the fight against insecurity should serve as a wake-up call for all stakeholders.
According to him, the development underscores the urgent need to strengthen local security architecture and provide better support for security personnel confronting heavily armed criminal groups.
He noted that many families in Ogbomosoland and other parts of Oyo State remain traumatized as schoolchildren, teachers, and other innocent citizens are still being held captive by kidnappers.
“The lives of our people must never be reduced to statistics. We cannot continue to watch our sons and daughters remain in captivity while communities live in fear and uncertainty,” he said.
Omo Oba Alade stressed that while the sacrifices of Amotekun personnel deserve commendation, government must critically assess the operational challenges facing the security outfit.
“If proper training, modern intelligence support, and sophisticated security equipment are provided, many of these operatives would be better positioned to confront criminal elements. No security personnel should be sent into dangerous operations without adequate protection and support,” he stated.
The PVM President argued that the security challenges confronting Oyo State further justify the growing demand for state police, noting that local security structures are often better equipped to understand the terrain and respond swiftly to threats.
He called on Governor Makinde, as the Chief Security Officer of Oyo State, to intensify efforts toward securing the release of all abducted schoolchildren, teachers, and other victims currently in the custody of kidnappers.
“We appreciate the efforts of the governor and security agencies so far, but the people expect more. This is not the time for politics. This is the time for action. Every available lawful means must be deployed to rescue those in captivity and restore confidence in our security system,” he said.
Omo Oba Alade further urged the Federal Government, security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders to work together in addressing the growing threat of kidnapping and violent crime across the state.
He emphasized that the safety of citizens must remain the primary responsibility of government and called for urgent reforms aimed at improving intelligence gathering, community policing, and operational efficiency among security agencies.
“The blood of fallen security operatives and the tears of families whose loved ones remain in captivity demand immediate action. Oyo people deserve peace, security, and visible results,” he added.
The Progressive Vision Movement had earlier called on Christian leaders, churches, and community organizations across Ogbomosoland to dedicate three days of prayer for the safe release of abducted schoolchildren and teachers, as well as divine intervention in the worsening security situation.
