Tuggar Denies Criticising Tinubu, Clarifies Position Amid Bauchi APC Primary Tensions
Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has denied reports suggesting that he attacked or criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the ongoing political developments surrounding the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in Bauchi State.
Tuggar made the clarification following growing speculation and political reactions generated by comments attributed to him in connection with internal APC activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The minister stressed that he remains a loyal member of the APC and a committed supporter of President Tinubu’s administration, insisting that his remarks had been misinterpreted and taken out of context
According to him, at no point did he attack the President or question his leadership, emphasizing that his political engagements have always been guided by respect for party structures and democratic principles.
Tuggar explained that discussions surrounding the APC primaries in Bauchi State should not be misconstrued as opposition to the President, noting that differing opinions within a political party are part of the democratic process
He reaffirmed his confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership and expressed support for the administration’s ongoing economic, diplomatic, and governance reforms aimed at addressing national challenges.
The clarification comes amid heightened political activities within the APC as party stakeholders position themselves ahead of future elections and internal contests.
Political observers note that Bauchi State has become a focal point of political discussions in recent months, with various interest groups and aspirants seeking influence within the ruling party’s structure.
Tuggar urged party members and supporters to avoid divisive narratives capable of creating unnecessary tension within the APC, stressing the importance of unity and collective commitment to the party’s objectives.
He also called on supporters to focus on strengthening the party and supporting initiatives designed to improve governance, economic growth, and national development.
Analysts believe the minister’s clarification is aimed at dispelling misconceptions and preventing the emergence of avoidable divisions within the APC ahead of crucial political engagements.
As consultations and realignments continue across the country, party leaders have repeatedly emphasized the need for cohesion and mutual respect among members to sustain the APC’s political dominance.
The latest statement is expected to calm tensions among supporters and reinforce Tuggar’s position as a key figure within the party and the federal administration.
