Gov. Sanwoolu Rewards Civil Servants With 20 Percent Salary Increase.

Hours after he clinched his second term re-election bid, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwoolu has increased the salaries of civil servants in the state by 20 percent.

The increase takes effect from January 1, 2023.

In a Circular with Reference No: CIR/HOS/’23/VOL 1/023 dated March 20, 2023 and signed by the Head of Service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, copies of which were dispatched to various departments to intimate workers on the salary increase.

Titled: INCREASE IN MAINSTREAM CIVIL SERVANTS, LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND LOCAL COUNCIL DEVELOPMENT AREA AND STATE UNIVERSAL BASIC EDUCATION BOARD OFFICERS, the Circular stated that the implementation of the salaries increase will start with immediate effect.

“This is to notify for general information that Mr Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu in his determination to improve the welfare and well being of public servants in Lagos State has graciously approved an increase in salaries for officers in the Mainstream Public Service. Local Goverment and Local Councils Development Areas as well as the State Universal and Basic Education Board by 20 percent with effect from 1st January, 2023.”

“Furthermore, kindly note that the arrears for the month January, 2023 will be paid along with salaries for the month of March, 2023, while the arrears for the month of February 2023 will be paid together with the salaries of April 2023.

“This action further demonstrates the administration’s commitment to staff welfare, public servants are thus enjoined to show more commitments and dedication in the delivery of qualitative service to the citizens of the state.”

“Accordingly, all Accounting Officers are to note the contents of this Circular and give it the service-wide publicity it deserves”, the Circular stated.
