Ejigbo Kidnap Gang Stayed in Lagos Four Days Before Planned Abduction — Police
The Lagos State Police Command has disclosed that a suspected kidnapping gang neutralised in the Ejigbo area of Lagos had reportedly stayed in the state for four days while planning the abduction of a prominent businessman.
According to the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, the suspects were intercepted by operatives at Jakande Estate Gate during a tactical operation carried out on May 24, 2026. The police said intelligence reports had earlier indicated that the gang was preparing to strike in Lagos.
The command explained that the kidnappers allegedly entered Lagos from the South-East region and carefully coordinated their movement before attempting the operation. During the encounter, police operatives engaged the suspects in a gun battle, leading to the death of four gang members, while another suspect reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds.
Authorities further linked the alleged gang leader, identified simply as Ifeanyi, also known as “Ifeko,” to previous kidnapping networks operating within the country. The police claimed he had connections with notorious criminal elements involved in earlier high-profile abduction cases.
Recovered from the suspects were several weapons and ammunition, including AK-47 rifles, pump-action guns, pistols, magazines, and live rounds. Police also recovered vehicles and other items allegedly connected to criminal activities across Lagos.
The commissioner said the latest operation highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and vowed that security agencies would continue to intensify efforts against kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, and other violent crimes in the state. He assured Lagos residents that there would be no safe haven for criminal gangs.
