Cholera : Ogun govt set to clamp down on unhygienic Water Producing Factories to fight outbreak
The Ogun State Government is to check the spread of cholera which has already killed 12 persons in different parts of the state.
Ola Oresanya, the state Commissioner for the Environment, said this at meeting with members of the state branch of Beverages Producers Association of Nigeria in Abeokuta.
He said that the meeting was necessary for the agency to know water producers who were registered and complying with the process of water production.
The commissioner said this became necessary to monitor the hygienic process of producing water products to ensure that they met the required standard for human consumption and avert health hazards that could affect the lives and well-being of the people.
“The state will not tolerate any factory that is not ready to follow the due process of production because you are registered or enlisted with NAFDAC does not mean that as a state we will not follow up with your production process to ensure that due diligence is done to avert health issues that can affect the lives of people living in the state,” he said,
Oresanya said the state would enforce sanctions on defaulters as the state was would collaborate with NAFDAC, the ministries of health, industry, trade, and investment to ensure compliance with the hygienic process of production of table water.
He said the government would also carry out periodic on-the-spot assessment of premises of producers to fish out the bad eggs among them.
Femi Olukoya and Lawan Shobiye, who spoke on behalf of the producers, said they would cooperate and support the state government to ensure that the health and lives of the people were protected
