Bishop Funke Felix-Adejumo, Co-Founder of Agape Christian Ministries, has spoken out about the importance of African women embracing intimacy without shame, particularly in the face of societal pressures that often encourage them to suppress their desires.
In her remarks, Adejumo encouraged women to communicate openly with their partners about their needs and to break free from restrictive cultural norms that dictate how they should behave in intimate relationships.
She emphasized the importance of expressing oneself during intimacy, stating that a more open and expressive approach can foster a healthier and more positive attitude toward sex. “I like sex. If I don’t, how will I have children? And you are just pretending you like sex. African culture has told you that a woman should not show that she enjoys sex, otherwise they will call her a prostitute,” she explained.
Adejumo challenged this mindset, urging women to reject the notion that they should not show enjoyment in their relationships. “When the man is touching you, you’re happy. So, the first thing is to disbelieve that in your mind, otherwise, you’ll be causing problems in your marriage,” she said.
She further encouraged women to embrace sex as a positive and fulfilling experience, stating, “Sex is good. I want my husband. And when you’re having sex with your husband, don’t pretend and just be like missionary. Talk, moan, sex is good.”
She also suggested that couples should be more affectionate and interactive during intimacy, urging women to engage in playful physical interactions like tickling and praising their partners afterward. “Tickle your husband, touch him when he’s making love to you. When he finishes, tell him he did a good job,” Adejumo advised.
Through her message, Adejumo called for a shift in attitudes toward intimacy, encouraging women to embrace their sexuality and reject the cultural stigmas that can often hinder marital satisfaction.
