Bandits Kidnap Medical Doctor in Niger State, Demand N150m Ransom
Suspected bandits have abducted a senior medical doctor, Dr. Anthony Eghagagara, in Niger State, raising fresh concerns over insecurity in the region.
The incident occurred at about 9:00 p.m. when armed men stormed the doctor’s private clinic in Wawa community, Borgu Local Government Area, and forcefully took him away.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers fired gunshots into the air to scare residents and patients before whisking the victim to an unknown destination.
Dr. Eghagagara, who is the Head of Medical Services at the General Hospital, New Bussa, was reportedly attending to patients at the time of the attack.
Sources revealed that the kidnappers have contacted the victim’s family, demanding a ransom of N150 million for his release.
The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the abduction and deployed a tactical team to track down the perpetrators and ensure the safe rescue of the doctor.
The incident has heightened fears among healthcare workers and residents, especially in rural communities where cases of banditry and kidnapping have become frequent.
Security agencies have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to secure the victim’s release and restore calm in the area.
