ADC Insists on Ekiti Governorship Participation Despite Court Deregistration Ruling
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared that a recent court ruling directing the deregistration of some political parties will not prevent it from participating in the forthcoming Ekiti State governorship election.
Speaking on the development, the party’s governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Bejide, expressed confidence that the ADC remains a legally recognized political platform and will continue preparations for the electoral contest.
According to him, the party is committed to pursuing all lawful avenues to protect its constitutional rights and ensure its continued participation in Nigeria’s democratic process. He maintained that the court judgment does not automatically exclude the party from the electoral process, especially as legal options remain available.
Bejide emphasized that the ADC remains focused on presenting its vision and programmes to Ekiti voters rather than being distracted by legal controversies. He assured party supporters that ongoing political activities and campaign structures across the state would continue uninterrupted.
The governorship hopeful also described the party as a viable alternative capable of addressing key challenges confronting the state, including youth unemployment, economic development, infrastructure, and good governance.
The controversy follows a Federal High Court judgment directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister certain political parties over alleged failure to meet specific legal and electoral requirements. The ruling has generated widespread debate among political stakeholders and constitutional experts across the country.
Despite the uncertainty created by the judgment, ADC leaders insist that the party remains optimistic about its future and is prepared to challenge any action that may undermine its participation in democratic elections.
Political observers believe the outcome of the legal processes that may follow the judgment could have significant implications for Nigeria’s multiparty system and preparations for future elections, including the Ekiti governorship poll.
Bejide urged party members and supporters to remain calm and focused, expressing confidence that democratic institutions would uphold the rights of political parties and ensure a level playing field for all contestants.
