Alimosho, Immigration Service Deepen Security Partnership as Akinpelu Hosts Lagos Commander
The Alimosho Local Government administration has reaffirmed its commitment to inter-agency collaboration as the Executive Chairman, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, hosted the Lagos State Commander of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), CIS Christopher Olu Onajirin, and his team.
The meeting, held during a courtesy visit by the Immigration Command, provided an opportunity for both institutions to explore stronger cooperation on security, immigration management, public service delivery and community development across Alimosho.
CIS Onajirin commended the Akinpelu-led administration for adopting an open and collaborative approach to governance, particularly its willingness to work with government agencies operating within the Local Government.
According to him, the administration’s engagement with different government institutions demonstrates an understanding that effective governance requires cooperation across agencies and levels of government.
The Immigration Commander said the NIS was prepared to strengthen its partnership with Alimosho Local Government, particularly in addressing security concerns and immigration-related issues. He stressed that the Service’s responsibilities extend beyond passport issuance to include immigration management, border security and enforcement of relevant immigration regulations.
Onajirin also highlighted the Service’s efforts to tackle illegal immigration, saying the agency was intensifying measures to identify and address cases involving persons residing in Nigeria without the required legal status.
He further pointed to reforms in passport administration, noting that improvements in the process were designed to make services more accessible and efficient for Nigerians. He maintained that applicants should be able to obtain passport services through established procedures without relying on personal connections.
The Commander also acknowledged the support extended by the Alimosho Local Government to immigration officers operating within the area, describing effective cooperation between government institutions as essential to achieving sustainable security and administrative outcomes.
Responding, Akinpelu thanked the NIS delegation for the visit and assured the agency of the Local Government’s continued cooperation. He said his administration would remain open to partnerships capable of delivering tangible benefits to residents.
“Our government operates an open-door policy, and we are ready to partner with any government agency in order to achieve results for our people,” the Chairman said.
Akinpelu also welcomed the reforms highlighted by the Immigration Commander, stressing that institutional reforms and improved coordination among government agencies are critical to strengthening public service delivery and building greater confidence in government.
The engagement underscores the growing importance of collaboration between local authorities and federal security and immigration agencies in addressing emerging security concerns while ensuring that residents have access to more efficient public services.
