Resident Doctors Suspend Nationwide Strike After Talks With Gbajabiamila
The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended its nationwide strike following high-level discussions with the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, raising hopes for the resolution of lingering issues affecting the country’s healthcare sector.
The decision to suspend the industrial action followed negotiations between representatives of the Federal Government and the leadership of the association, during which both parties reviewed key demands relating to doctors’ welfare, remuneration, working conditions and other outstanding concerns.
NARD said the suspension of the strike was reached in the interest of patients and the nation’s healthcare system while allowing room for the implementation of agreements reached during the meeting. The association expressed optimism that the Federal Government would honour its commitments within the agreed timeframe.
The Federal Government welcomed the development, describing the outcome of the talks as a positive step toward restoring normal healthcare services across public hospitals. Officials reiterated the administration’s commitment to addressing the welfare of medical professionals and strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system through sustained dialogue.
