Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has approved the extension of the one-day-off-duty work palliative for eligible public and civil servants across the state, alongside the continuation of the ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance for another three months.

The renewed welfare package, which will run from July to September 2026, is aimed at easing the burden of rising transportation costs on workers while encouraging greater productivity and efficient service delivery in the state.

Governor Abiodun had initially introduced the palliative measures from April to June 2026 following the increase in the pump price of petrol, as part of efforts to cushion the economic impact on civil servants.

According to the state government, the extension reflects its commitment to prioritising workers’ welfare and supporting the workforce amid prevailing economic challenges.

However, the government clarified that the one-day-off-duty concession will not apply to officers on shift duties or personnel providing essential services. Those exempted include medical personnel, judicial service workers, teaching and non-teaching staff in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions, security personnel, political office holders, accounting officers, directors, and other officers receiving Special Responsibility Allowances due to the nature of their assignments, which require their physical presence at work.

The approval was conveyed in a circular signed by the Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Iskeel Olanrewaju Saka, mni, who urged all eligible workers to maximise the opportunity while ensuring that service delivery is not disrupted.

The circular emphasised that ministries, departments and agencies should continue to maintain high standards of productivity despite the flexible work arrangement.

The Ogun State Government reaffirmed its commitment to implementing worker-friendly policies that promote productivity, improve staff welfare and reduce the economic burden on civil servants.
