NGF Launches Northern Nigeria Security Trust Fund to Strengthen Regional Security
The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has inaugurated the Northern Nigeria Security Trust Fund (NNSTF) as part of renewed efforts to strengthen security coordination and address the persistent security challenges affecting the northern region.
The initiative is designed to mobilise financial resources and provide sustained support for security agencies, intelligence gathering, logistics, and community-based interventions aimed at improving safety across Northern Nigeria.
Speaking at the inauguration, NGF officials said the trust fund would serve as a collaborative platform involving state governments, the private sector, development partners, and other stakeholders to enhance the fight against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities.
According to the forum, the establishment of the security trust fund underscores the commitment of northern governors to adopting innovative and sustainable solutions to the region’s security challenges while complementing the efforts of the Federal Government and security agencies.
The governors also stressed the importance of intelligence sharing, improved surveillance, modern security technology, and stronger collaboration among security institutions to effectively tackle emerging threats and protect lives and property.
Stakeholders at the event described the initiative as a significant step toward strengthening regional security architecture, improving emergency response, and restoring public confidence in efforts to safeguard communities across Northern Nigeria.
The NGF expressed optimism that the Northern Nigeria Security Trust Fund would attract support from corporate organisations, philanthropic institutions, and development partners, enabling long-term investments in security infrastructure, personnel capacity building, and crime prevention initiatives.
