Many Nigerians know Nollywood veteran Hilda Dokubo and Niger Delta activist Asari Dokubo as prominent public figures. However, what many people do not know is that the two share a close family bond.

Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, has revealed that she and Asari Dokubo are cousins. She explained that in their Kalabari culture, cousins are regarded as brothers and sisters, making their relationship much closer than many people might assume.
Despite their shared family background, both have pursued different paths to national prominence. Hilda Dokubo built a successful career in Nigeria’s film industry, earning recognition as one of Nollywood’s respected actresses through decades of outstanding performances. Asari Dokubo, on the other hand, became widely known for his role as a Niger Delta activist and political figure, making him one of the region’s most recognizable voices.
Beyond her acting career, Hilda has also participated in public service and politics. She was appointed to lead the Labour Party’s Rivers State Steering Committee. In February 2025, she was suspended by the party over allegations that included misconduct, extortion, and negligence during an internal leadership dispute. The actress denied the allegations, insisting she had done nothing wrong.
Outside politics, Hilda Dokubo has remained active in humanitarian work, supporting vulnerable children and advocating for community development through various charitable initiatives.
Asari Dokubo has also been associated with several community-based interventions across the Niger Delta, including educational support, payment of hospital bills, provision of boreholes, and assistance to disadvantaged residents.
